Summary

Salsa Event in Vancouver running for 22 years

Celebration 22 years of Salsa, Merengue and Bachata

911 Salsa Tuesday is an event that has been running in Vancouver for 22 years without interruption, featuring the same DJ and instructor.History: It all started in July 2004 when Hugo "DJ Cachete" decided to launch an event featuring exclusively salsa music. He chose Atlantis as the venue due to its size and facilities, and at the same time selected Diego as the instructor. For the first two years, Tuesdays were salsa days in Vancouver, with over 300 dancers attending. During those years, a genre emerged that began to gain popularity among dancers: bachata. It was added to the playlist, along with merengue. Atlantis changed ownership and its name to Boss Nightclub, remaining so for another six years until the building was sold. The event had to be moved to another venue for three months, Red Room, and then settled on Granville Street in a club called Joe's Apartment. It stayed there for almost six years, and the place changed ownership again, becoming Studio. After a few years, it moved to Mangos Kitchen Bar, where it remains active. DJ Hugo Cachete has been a fixture in Vancouver's nightlife for generations, thanks to his style of playing high-energy modern salsa combined with classic salsa from Latin American countries. This July, let's celebrate an iconic Vancouver event that has witnessed generations of salsa fans. This event is one of the oldest in North America and globally, ranking among the 20 oldest still running, characterized by having the same resident DJ along with several guest DJs.
